WATCH: Bear steals box of Chewy

A family in Lackawanna County was expecting a delivery of dog food from the online pet store Chewy, but a hungry bear had other plans. Video from the Newman family’s security camera caught the thief in the act. The bear can be seen grabbing the box and dragging it off the porch and into the woods. The family, who live in Thornhurst, tell us they sent the video to Chewy, and the company offered to send a replacement bag of food free of charge so they can finally get their delivery.

Mange Epidemic in Pennsylvania Black Bears Video

NIPPENOSE TOWNSHIP -- Stop feeding the bears -- that's what Pennsylvania Game Commission officers are telling people to do in Lycoming County.

Mange, a sometimes fatal skin infection, is spreading among the bear population in central Pennsylvania.
It would be extremely difficult for the Game Commission officers to completely get rid of mange, but what they can do is help prevent the spread of the skin infection.

When the Pennsylvania Game Commission found a bear two years ago in Lycoming County, it was starving to death left with just a tuft of hair on its back.
"It was first a couple isolated cases and over the years it's gotten a lot more severe," said Harold Cole, Pennsylvania Game Commission.
This black bear and others just like it in Lycoming County have died from a severe case of mange caused by mites.

Pennsylvania State game officials say four bears found dead

yew, called taxine, is highly toxic to humans and animals if ingested.
WEST WYOMING -- Pennsylvania State game officials say four bears found dead in Luzerne County were poisoned but not by a person.
The mother bear and her three cubs were found earlier this month near a church parking lot in West Wyoming.
Conservation officers considered the deaths suspicious, but after examining two of the bears, the game commission now says they died from eating English yew plants.
The shrubs are used in landscaping and are fairly common. Officials say a compound in yew, called taxine, is highly toxic to humans and animals if ingested.
