Dick Proenneke lived alone for nearly thirty years in the mountains of Alaska in a log cabin
Richard Louis "Dick" Proenneke (May 4, 1916 – April 20, 2003) was a self-educated naturalist who lived alone for nearly thirty years in the mountains of Alaska in a log cabin he had constructed by hand near the shore of Twin Lakes.
The cabin was built using only hand tools, many of which Proenneke himself had fashioned. Throughout the thirty years he lived at the cabin, Proenneke created homemade furniture and implements that reflect his woodworking genius…

How to make a paracord axe handle wrap
This video demonstrates how to make a paracord axe handle wrap.
It is made in a quick deploy fashion, which means it can be completely unraveled in a matter of seconds when needed.
Paracord short for Parachute Cord is a lightweight nylon rope used during World War II for yeah you guessed it parachute suspension lines. Today paracord is used widely throughout all branches of the military and civilian use. The Mil spec paracord has six different grades ranging in strength from 95lb to 750lb. I use Type-III which has a minimum breaking strength of 550lbs. although I have personally tested it up to 1,000lbs. It consists of a sheath that contains seven two strand yarns. One of the nifty things about this rope is that it can be easily gutted of its inner yarns for more delicate jobs like sewing. The cord, when gutted of the core yarns, is considered Type-IIa which becomes much less elastic (good or bad thing depends on) and retains a breaking strength of 225lbs.

Law Enforcement game camera captures footage of a hairy creature video
A game camera had been used by law enforcement as a possible way of spotting marijuana growers operating in the Sequoia National Forest.
The device which supplied the footage was purportedly placed "27 miles back in the Sequoia National Forest, not accessible by vehicles, only ATV, then foot."
When the law enforcement officers went to retrieve the cameras, the source says, they were stunned to discover this particular piece of footage.

Pennsylvania State game officials say four bears found dead
yew, called taxine, is highly toxic to humans and animals if ingested. |
WEST WYOMING -- Pennsylvania State game officials say four bears found dead in Luzerne County were poisoned but not by a person.
The mother bear and her three cubs were found earlier this month near a church parking lot in West Wyoming.
Conservation officers considered the deaths suspicious, but after examining two of the bears, the game commission now says they died from eating English yew plants.
The shrubs are used in landscaping and are fairly common. Officials say a compound in yew, called taxine, is highly toxic to humans and animals if ingested.
